In a Whisper

' In a Whisper' is a French-Tunisian drama written and directed by Leyla Bouzid. It is a production by Unité that premiered at the Berlinale on February 13, 2026, where it was nominated for a Golden Bear. The film subsequently debuts in the country on April 29, 2026.

Lilia is a young woman who has been living in Paris for years and returns to her native Tunisia for her uncle's funeral after his sudden and mysterious death. Upon arriving, she discovers that her family barely has any information about what her life is like in the French capital. On one hand, the young woman wants to investigate what happened to her uncle, but she encounters a closed and hermetic family.

The same thing happens to Lillia herself, who has traveled there with her girlfriend, whom she hides in a hotel, unsure of how or even whether to introduce her to her family. A struggle between three generations of women torn between loyalty to their family and loyalty to themselves, as they explore sexuality and social justice in Tunisia.

' In a Whisper' stars the trio of actresses formed by Eya Bouteraa, Hiam Abbas and Marion Barbeau. The film has something biographical about it, as it was filmed in Sousse, Tunisia, where the director spent her vacations when she was little.
