Plot
'Les Miserables: The Story of Jean Valjean' narrates the story of the main character of 'Les Miserables': Jean Valjean. In the various film adaptations of Victor Hugo's novel, we have seen this character portrayed by actors such as Hugh Jackman or Liam Neeson, but we have not learned his story or origin, which is what ' Jean Valjean' achieves. After leaving prison, Valjean finds himself shattered and suffers the rejection of everyone around him. It is then that he wanders aimlessly from 1815 until he finds shelter in the home of a clergyman, his sister, and their servant. Here, in this temporary refuge, Jean Valjean faces the most important decision of his life: who he wants to become.
' Jean Valjean' is directed and written by Éric Besnard and is based on the novel 'Les Miserables' by Victor Hugo, specifically on its first part. This time, we will see the French actor Grégory Gadebois in the role of Jean Valjean. Alongside him, we find a cast almost entirely French, as the production indeed comes from France. Some of these actors and actresses include Bernard Campan, Alexandra Lamy, Isabelle Carré, Dominique Pinon, Romane Libert, Albert Dupontel, Christiane Conil, and Laura Behague, among others.
Acontracorriente distributes this feature film, which arrives in theaters on February 27, 2026.
