With 'La ch'tite famille', Dany Boon (...) demonstrates again his capacity to make the most out of the chi dialect through a movie that serves him to throw poisoned darts around the urban snobbery and the posing culture.

Far from being a deviation of that comedy-event ('Welcome to the Sticks'), 'La ch'tite familie' is a very funny opera buffa that happens at the rhythm of comical encounters between stupid courtesans and extroverted plebeians.

Apart from Danny Boon's doubtable jokes and the easy satire of vanguard design and the word of snobs from Paris, the insistent joke about the hard accent can be hardly transported to any dubbed version of the movie and, for once, the same or even worse happens with the original subtitled version.

Boon definitely takes his concept as far as it can go and then some, nailing a few solid laughs along the way but running out of steam after the midway mark. Still, his sixth feature should play well with French audiences, who love comedies that can both poke fun at, and celebrate regional differences (...) Overseas action may be best in Francophone territories, as many of the language jokes are had to translate.

Apart from the problem for non French speakers, the movie has certain sympathy, a couple of good plot twists (the hit in the head of its arrogan main character, who denies his origins, and makes him speak ch'tis again, and the fact that a fancy girl from Paris wants to learn it out of love), and a sharp critic, one more, to contemporary art. But, as in language, Boon always prefers the easy to the complex, the popular to the sophisticated.
