Plot
Aurora Rodríguez (Najwa Nimri) is a calculating and cold mother who gives birth to her daughter, Hildegart Rodríguez, with the aim of making her the brightest woman in 1930s Spain. To achieve this, she devises a plan called the 'Hildegart Project', which seeks to fully develop her daughter's intellectual and cognitive abilities. As a result, Hildegart learns to read and write at a very young age and begins practicing as a lawyer at just seventeen.
However, amidst the political turmoil in the country, Hildegart will expand her horizons and join the republican side. There, she will meet various companions, both allies and enemies, who will disrupt Aurora's master plan in one way or another. Notably, she forms a friendship with Abel Vilella (Patrick Criado), who will be a great ally in her journey and in the battle against her mother. The two women will confront each other on a summer night in 1933 to determine Hildegart's future and the questionable ethical level of the "Hildegart Project."
'La virgen roja', based on the true story of Hildegart Rodríguez, is directed by Paula Ortiz and produced by Amazon and MGM Studios. The film is part of the official section of the San Sebastián Festival.
