Los bárbaros

A group of young people from a peripheral neighborhood, disenchanted by the lack of horizons and the precariousness of their daily lives, transforms a building under construction —whose work has been halted— into an improvised refuge, where they establish their new home under the shelter of concrete and unfinished structures.

In that concrete skeleton, isolated from the frenetic rhythm of the city, they find a suspended time and the possibility of inventing another way of life. Away from the demands of the outside world, they weave an irregular but sincere coexistence, marked by apathy, imagination, and the desire to belong to something, even if it is temporary; they are exactly where they want to be.

Amid games, silences, and shared routines, they begin to outline a collective identity that they had never had. However, when months later the construction resumes, they are forced to leave that space which, for a moment, was theirs. What had been a territory of freedom dissolves without leaving a trace, as if nothing had happened.

But beneath the surface, in some corner of their memory, something from that experience persists: the echo of an improbable community that knew, for a time, how to exist on the margins, a place to return to, even if only through the memory of a past life.
