Jana is a strong and smart 8-year-old whose mother suffers from depression. That?s why she must spend Christmas with her grandmother.

On the other hand, little Violeta is living in the Palace of Versailles with her uncle Regis, she would never have imagined it! Both protagonists will encounter situations that did not fit into their plans, but will learn to live them with optimism and joy.

The director, Hugo de Faucompret, says: "In the origin of Mom is pure rain I had the will to deal with the issue of depression, but I wanted to do it by keeping up with a child, with a story full of life. What emerges from the film is precisely what we sometimes miss: the importance of sharing simple things like food or music. I needed the help of a screenwriter to structure the story and I wanted her to be a woman: the film tells the story of three generations-grandmother, daughter, granddaughter-and I wanted to precisely build the bonds that unite these female characters. I chose to treat animation with traditional painting to give fullness to the scenarios. I wanted to rediscover the spontaneity of the brush and the softness of the colors. It was a pleasure work on paper; a humble, pleasant and calming pleasure, as a form of meditation where there are no distractions".
