My Cousin Rachel's reviews
Media reviews
Rolling Stone
Credit Rachel Weisz, who's just the dynamite actress needed to play a character who could be a misunderstood innocent or a fortune-hunting seductress who could be a cold-blooded killer. How delicious to watch the star keep us guessing.
The Hollywood Reporter
The first produced screenplay by Michell, whose directing credits include Notting Hill and Le Week-End, shows a sure grasp of the source material's complexities. He brings a couple of effective modifications to his otherwise faithful adaptation, as well as cinematic flair
Screen Daily
Two stellar performances revive the lesser-known Daphne Du Maurier psychological drama My Cousin Rachel, with writer-director Roger Michell breathing warm air over the formalities of this British period piece
Variety
It?s pure pleasure to watch Weisz as Rachel, who is also an actress of sorts, adapting to suit the needs and desires of whoever she?s seducing
Time Out
This clever, well-acted adaptation, written and directed by Roger Michell (?Notting Hill?), is possibly a little too elegant, all bonnets and breeches and puffy shirts, but it does nail the spirit of the novel.
The Wrap
We get intrigue that?s never quite intriguing enough, and tortured romance that plays more like tortured writing.
The Playlist
For all the strong performances and able filmmaking, My Cousin Rachel never quite coheres.
