Plot
'People We Meet on Vacation' is a romantic comedy film directed by Brett Haley. It is an adaptation of the eponymous novel published in 2021 by Emily Henry, with a screenplay adapted by Yulin Kuang, Amos Vernon, and Nunzio Randazzo. Produced by Sony and 3000 Pictures, the film will be released worldwide on January 9, 2026, through the streaming platform Netflix.
The protagonist is Poppy Wright, a twenty-something who works as a travel guide writer from New York. When her friend David invites her to his wedding in Barcelona, Poppy uses the trip as an excuse to reconnect with his brother, Alex. Poppy and Alex met in college years ago, when they formed a beautiful friendship based on sharing an annual trip.
The film remembers some of these trips over the years, and how the friendship between the two evolved. Up to the last trip to date, which took place two years ago, when the relationship between them ended badly in Tuscany. Will David's wedding help Poppy and Alex reconnect? What happened on the last trip that caused their friendship to end? And what if behind a beautiful story of friendship lay something deeper that neither of them could recognize?
'People We Meet on Vacation' stars Emily Bader and Tom Blyth in the main roles. The cast also includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Jammela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gage, Miles Heizer, Milly Shannon, and Alan Ruck, among others. The film received decent reviews after its release.
