Robocop Returns

New sequel to 'Robocop' that will follow the direct events of his first film (in the style of 'Terminator: Dark Destination'). It is produced by the scriptwriters of the original film (Ed Neumier and Michael Miner) and written by the two together with Justin Rhodes, who participated in the script for 'Terminator: Dark Destiny'. The film will be directed by director Abe Forsythe, author of the acclaimed independent film 'Little Monsters', a zombie horror comedy with Lupita Nyong'o ('Twelve Years a Slave', 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi', 'Black Panther', 'Us') that triumphed at the Sundance Festival. The film was previously in negotiations with the science fiction director Neill Blomkamp ('District 9', 'Elysium', 'Chappie').

The original Robocop was directed by Paul Verhoeven and was released in theaters in 1987. It starred Peter Weller as Alex Murphy, a policeman from a Detroit near the future where corporations controlled everything and corruption ran rampant. In the film, after being almost killed by a gang, they bring Murphy back with the help of an armored cybernetic body, which makes him half man, half machine. The film raised over $ 53 million in cinemas and was nominated for several Academy Awards, winning the Oscar for Best Sound Edition in that edition.
