Ruth & Boaz

'Ruth & Boaz' is a U.S. romantic drama directed by Alanna Brown with a screenplay by Michael Elliot and Cory Tynan. It is a production by Tyler Perry, through his company Tyler Perry Productions, for the streaming platform Netflix, which releases the film worldwide on September 26, 2025.

It narrates, in a modern and updated way, with predominantly African American characters, the biblical story of Ruth and Boaz, as told in the Book of Ruth from the Old Testament. This time, we are taken to Tennessee, where a young woman leaves her life in the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly woman. In the process, she discovers the love of her life (Boaz, a generous man who becomes her protector) and the maternal figure she never thought she would have.

A parable that explores values such as loyalty, faith, resilience, and love, starring Serayah as Ruth, Tyler Lepley as Boaz, and Phylicia Rashad as Naomi. The cast is completed by Kenneth Edmonds, Georgy Alan Williams, Walnette Carrington, James Lee Thomas, Christopher Broughton, Nijah Brenea, Mike Forbs, Zuri Soyinka and Jermaine Dupri.

'Ruth & Boaz' is part of the production deal between Tyler Perry and Netflix, and in this case, the film receives predominantly negative reviews.
