Sembrando sueños

The documentary 'Sembrando sueños' by Alfonso Sánchez, marks the debut of the Sevillian filmmaker in the documentary genre, offering a tribute to the prolific Álvarez Quintero de Utrera brothers, known for their more than 200 theatrical works that have captivated to the public throughout Spain. The original music for this work has been created by Pablo Cervantes.

The Álvarez Quintero, whose first play, 'Fencing and Love', premiered at the old Teatro Cervantes, now Cine Cervantes in Seville, at the young age of 16, are celebrated in this documentary that explores their lives and legacy. This feature film, which will be available in theaters starting February 15, commemorates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Serafín (in 2021) and Joaquín Álvarez Quintero (in 2023).

The film, awarded the Imagenera Prize of the Andalusian Studies Center in 2023, features the participation of outstanding actors such as Alberto López, Carmen Canivel and Antonia Gómez, as well as testimonies from personalities such as Santiago Segura, Arturo Pérez Reverte, José Mota, Alfonso Guerra, Marta Palenque, Lola Pons and Mariano de Paco, among others. In addition, it incorporates original radio recordings with the authentic voices of the Álvarez Quinteros.

This documentary, made and released in 2023 and 2024 respectively, coincides with the conclusion of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the birth of the Álvarez Quintero brothers, highlighting their importance in Spanish cultural history. Presented as the opening film of the Huelva Ibero-American Film Festival and screened at the Seville European Film Festival, it offers a new perspective on the life and work of these two masters of literature and dramaturgy, free of prejudices and labels, in line with the present.
