Plot
'Sirat' is a mystical and contemplative journey set in the mountains of Morocco, where the boundary between the human and the divine blurs. The film follows a solitary man, a foreigner lost in an arid and majestic landscape, who embarks on a spiritual path guided by chance encounters with locals, Sufi mystics, and the very forces of nature.
Sergi López and his son Bruno Núñez arrive at a rave in the middle of the Moroccan mountains in search of the missing Mar, their daughter and sister. They distribute photos and try to find her while we hear electronic music in the background in a different culture. Desperation and a series of trials lead them to leave with a group of people into the middle of the desert in search of the young woman.
With the meditative and visually hypnotic style characteristic of Óliver Laxe ('Lo que arde' and 'Mimosas'), 'Sirat' explores themes such as redemption, faith, and the search for meaning in an increasingly fragmented world. The film blends elements of magical realism with a minimalist narrative, supported by sparse yet profound dialogues, and an immersive soundtrack that fuses Sufi chants with natural sounds.
Shot in 35 mm and featuring non-professional actors, 'Sirat' is a cinematic experience that invites reflection, questioning the boundaries of cinema as an art form and as a tool for spiritual transcendence.
A film that will participate in the official section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and will be released in Spanish cinemas starting June 6 of the same year.
