Plot

Tim Hill ('Alvin and the Chipmunks') directs the third installment of the film franchise 'SpongeBob', with a screenplay written by Jonathan Aibel, Glenn Berger, Jordan Dunn, Michael Kvamme, based on a story by Kyle McCulloch and Paul Tibbit. 'The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run' reintroduces audiences to most loved sea sponge in all Pacific Ocean. The story starts when Spongebob's snail, Gary, is "snailnapped" by the sea god, Poseidon. Alongside his ever-faithful friend Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke, 'How I Met Your Mother'), Spongebob (Tom Kenny, 'Rick and Morty') departs from the tranquil underwater city of Bikini Bottom in search of Gary, whom they believe has been taken to the Lost City of Atlantic City. With advice from the eternally wise Sage (Keanu Reeves, 'The Matrix') under their belts, Spongebob and Patrick are determined to hit the casinos of Atlantic City and get their snail back. 'The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run' will be the first film in the 'Spongebob' franchise made entirely with CGI. In this family friendly adventure, audiences will watch Spongebob and friends travel across the ocean in pursuit of those they care about the most. Joining the cast will be Awkafina, Clancy Brown, Carolyn Lawrence and Rodger Bumpass.

Trivia The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run

Will mark the 20th Anniversary of SpongeBob SquarePants. Will be the second nickelodeon show to have a threequel after 'Rugrats' (1991). The film was to be released during the 20th anniversary 'Bob Esponja' (1999), but its release date was moved from 2019 to 2020 to avoid clashing with 'Dora and the lost city' (2019).
