Sultana's Dream

The animated movie 'Sultana's Dream' is based on the feminist story by Begum Rokeya Hussein, 'The dream of the Sultana', an Indian writer who created the story in the year 1905. Inés is a 30 year old Spanish animation director who is presented in Ahmedabad because she wants to break up with her Indian lover.

By chance, or maybe by fate, Inés goes into a bookstore and finds a novel about an imaginary country that has a female government and she really likes the story, the author's feminist attitude and her way of writing.

From that moment, the story of Inés, who decides to make a movie about the fascinating novel about woman in a lost land in the Himalaya, and Rokeya Hussein's story are told at the same time.

Inés prepares herself for a trip around India with one goal: Finding the Utopian land where woman govern, which the novel describes like as the perfect paradise for her. The movie is directed by Isabel Herguera and written by Herguera with Gianmarco Serra. In its cast we can find Mirren Arrieta (Inés), Mary Beard, Roberto Bessi, Miren Gabilondo, Nausheen Javeed, Paul B. Preciado and Debjani Mukherjee, among others.

Isabel Herguera is author to other projects like 'Blind Man's Buff', 'The Pillow Book', 'Àmár' and 'Amore d'Inverno', among others. Now she brings us a story about feminism in a science fiction tale that mixes up drama and fantasy.
