The Battleship Island

Set in colonial Japanese times and based on a true story happened on the island of Hashima, 'The Battleship Island' tells the story of 400 enslaved Koreans. The plot focuses on musician, Lee Gang Ok and his young daughter So-Hee, who, along with the other Koreans are tricked into moving to the island. Once on the island, the men are dragged off to coal mines, whilst the women are taken away to work as prostitutes. It is at this point when Lee and his daughter become separated. In a desperate attempt to be reunited with her, Lee works his way into the Japanese soldiers' good books by acting as a spy for them.

Lee soon teams up with another detainee, Park, who has a plan to mass evacuate the island before the Japanese blow it up, in order to hide their crimes.
