The Blue Trail

Gabriel Mascaro brings in ''The Blue Trail'' an odyssey that explores identity and the search for self. An adventure both internal and external.

The story follows Tereza (Denise Weinberg). She is seventy-seven years old and has spent her entire life in the same industrial town on the banks of the Amazon. 

However, the Brazilian government decides to carry out a social relocation. Thus, it selects the elderly from society, sends them an official notification, and displaces them to colonies away from the rest of society.

Age is not wisdom, it is not hope, nor a path to follow. Old age has become a scourge for productivity. Thus, it opts to prioritize the optimization of youth's work over the freedom of those in their senior years. 

Tereza does not want to be just another in that plan that does not regard citizens as people, but rather as numbers and assets to be discarded when they can no longer be exploited.

She takes an old boat and gathers a series of eccentrics to embark on an adventure. Through rivers and jungles, Tereza pursues her last wish: to board a plane.

Along the way, she meets peculiar characters, dreamlike landscapes, and moments where reality intertwines with illusion.

The Brazilian director presents a work that unmasks a dystopian society regarding ageism, memory, and dignity. An elderly woman regains control of her destiny that she believed she had lost.

A set of sensations: colors, textures, sounds, musicality, explosions of emotion and serene fury. A celebration of life in the face of society's disdain.
