'The Glass Castle' is a dramatic film based on the memoirs of journalist Jeannette Walls (Brie Larson). It begins with Jeannette?s childhood, ending with her life as a journalist. As a child, she grew up in a dysfunctional family: an alcoholic father (Woody Harrelson), and an artistic mother who hates conventional life and refuses to take on the responsibility of taking care of her four children. Throughout her childhood Jeanette moves to different places with her parents and siblings, allowing her to live out an unusual life that, and become a successful individual, living on her own terms.

Jennifer Lawrence was attached to star and produce the movie for a long period of time but dropped out. Brie Larson was cast in the lead role after Lawrence dropped out. Brie Larson had already worked with the director Destin Cretton on 'Short Term 12'. 'The Crystal Castle' was based on the memoirs of journalist Jeannette Walls.
