Plot

'The Goldman Case', directed by Cédric Kahn, hits Spanish cinemas on March 15, distributed by Filmin. This film dramatizes the famous trial of Pierre Goldman in the 1970s in France, highlighting his role as a political activist and thief. The film has received 8 César Award nominations, including Best Film and Best Director.

Goldman was accused of several robberies in Paris in 1969, including one that resulted in the deaths of two women in a pharmacy. Although he admitted to the first robberies, he denied his involvement in the deadly robbery. The trial generated great media interest and passions on the French left.

The script, written by Kahn himself together with Nathalie Hertzberg, is based on exhaustive investigation of the case and reconstructs the events from articles from the time. It focuses on Goldman's intensity, the skill of his defense lawyer, Georges Kiejman, and the betrayal of another lawyer, Henri-René Garaud.

The film explores the relationship between Goldman and Kiejman, both Polish Jews with similar tragic stories but opposite destinies. This relationship is characterized by fascination, rivalry and guilt between both characters, one a brilliant Parisian lawyer and the other a wandering idealist.

Trivia

Shot with natural light

The movie was mostly shot on the court room set, a set created on a tennis court with a canopy, meaning the whole movie was shot in natural light. Three cameras were following the main characters at all times, in medium shots. In the final movie, close-up shots are almost non-existent.

Brother of a singer

Pierre Goldman was the big half-brother to French singer Jean-Jacques Goldman, who is shown several times in this movie during the trial, played by Ulysse Dutilloy-Liégeois.

Previous title

The working title was "Je suis innocent parce que je suis innocent", meaning "I'm innocent because I'm innocent" in English.
