The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo

'The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo' is set in the Chilean desert in the early 1980s, where Lidia, an eleven-year-old girl, is raised in a tremendously loving and affectionate queer family. This family is relegated to the outskirts of an unpleasant mining town, always filled with dust, after being blamed for suffering from a mysterious disease that begins to spread among the inhabitants. 

Rumors say that this disease is transmitted through the gaze, when a man falls in love with another. After some tragic events, Lidia wishes to quench her thirst for revenge and confronts the hatred of others, with fear and violence, with family as her only refuge and love as a potential real danger. 

Diego Céspedes, a Chilean filmmaker, directs and writes this feature film in the form of a contemporary western. This is his debut on the big screen as a film director, and it has received considerable critical acclaim. 'The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo' stars Tamara Cortes as Lidia, accompanied by a cast of other actors and actresses such as Matías Catalán, Paula Dinamarca, Pedro Muñoz, Luis Dubó, Vicente Caballero, Bruna Ramírez, and Sirena González. 

'The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo' is a co-production between several countries: Chile, France, Germany, Spain, and Belgium. In Spain, it is distributed by BTeam Pictures and will hit theaters on January 16, 2026.
