The Righteous

'The Righteous' is a Spanish thriller written and directed by Jorge A. Lara and Fer Pérez and produced by Nephilim Producciones. The film premieres at the Málaga Film Festival before hitting theaters on April 30, 2026.

It follows a group of nine people of various ages and social backgrounds who have been called to form a people's court to rule on a controversial and high-profile corruption case. The jury, isolated from the rest of society, quickly reaches a verdict of guilty... until they receive a tempting offer: one million euros to change the verdict from guilty to innocent.

However, to access the money, the decision must be unanimous. Thus, the group soon divides between those who choose to change their verdict and claim the reward or those who value ethics and insist on maintaining the previously agreed verdict. Who will ultimately prevail? Do we all have a price?

'The Righteous' features a large ensemble cast portraying the members of this peculiar jury, including Carmen Machi, Vito Sanz, Marina Querola, Pilar Castro, Marcelo Subiotto, Bruna Cusí, Aimar Vega, Ane Gabarín, and Hugo Welzel. The film was shot in various locations in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and involves the participation of RTVE and HBO Max.
