Plot
In the year 1721, seeking peace with Spain after years of war that have left the two countries weakened, the French regent, Felipe of Orleans, plot an ingenious idea: a marriage between the heirs of both kingdoms. So, he offers Spain to marry his heiress, Maria Anna Victoria of 4 years, Infanta of Spain, with Luis XIV, of 11 years. Likewise, the regent offers his own daughter, Mademoiselle de Montpensier, aged 12, to the Prince of Asturias. Madrid responds enthusiastically accepting both marriages and the ceremonies are organized quickly.
The exchange of princesses will take place on a small island with all the necessary pomp in a river between both countries. Everything is organized expecting the best of the children but nothing will happen as planned.
