The Salt Path

‘'The Salt Path'’ is a British film directed by Marianne Elliott. A dramatic film that for almost two hours explores the theme of health and illness and how it affects love, no matter how strong it is.

The couple, Raynor Winn (Gillian Anderson) and her husband Moth (Jason Isaacs), are not going through the best time. They have just lost their home, their safe place, their refuge where they can be. The loss of their home is just the beginning of their instability.

The news comes shortly after the couple learns that he has been diagnosed with a terminal neurodegenerative disease. With this devastating news added to their eviction, they both decide that at that moment they have nothing left to lose since everything is already lost.

Together they decide to embark on a journey full of courage that encompasses all the mental and physical strength of the couple. They decide to walk the 630 miles (about one thousand fourteen kilometers) that make up the South West Coast Path of England. Starting from Somerset to Dorset. 

The adventure is a challenge that makes them traverse steep cliffs, deserted beaches, and barely traveled landscapes. With little more than the essentials in their backpacks, they set off on their journey.

The passing days open up a new perspective for them. They find beauty where they would not have before, experience moments where one depends on the other, and must stay side by side to prevent their vulnerability from overwhelming them.

Moreover, the couple cannot ignore the latent disease within Moth's body, which consumes him with every step they take and every day that ends.
