The Testament of Ann Lee

Mona Fastvold directs this feature film inspired by real events about the religious figure Ann Lee. 'The Testament of Ann Lee' explores the life and journey of the religious leader who founded the Shaker Movement in the late 18th century in the United States. In the last years of the 1770s, Ann Lee built a kind of utopian society, one of the largest in North American history. For her followers and adherents, she was considered Jesus Christ, the female Messiah, and they worshipped her through prayers, songs, and dances. 

In addition to being in charge of direction, Mona Fastvold also co-writes the script along with Brady Corbet. The actress who embodies this leader and religious pioneer is Amanda Seyfried, who has received several nominations for her performance. The cast is completed by other actors such as Lewis Pullman, Thomasin McKenzie, Matthew Beard, Christopher Abbott, Viola Prettejohn, David Cale, Stacy Martin, Scott Handy, Jeremy Wheeler, Tim Blake Nelson, and Daniel Blumberg.

'The Testament of Ann Lee' was nominated for the Golden Lion at the 2025 Film Festival and has been quite acclaimed by critics and audiences. It is produced by Kaplan Morrison and other companies. In Spain, it is distributed by Searchlight Pictures and arrives in theaters on March 13, 2026.
