The Touch

Karin Vergerus (Bibi Andersson) is a young Swedish woman, seemingly happy housewife and mother married to Andreas (Max von Sydow), a very reserved surgeon. They live in a small town, and their marriage is peaceful but unexciting. When she meets David Kovac (Elliott Gould) a foreign archaeologist who is working near her home she starts to feel an inexplicable attraction for him. He is a Jewish survivor from a concentration camp who found refuge in the U.S and their relationship will be very difficult. Karin still loves her husband and her family, and she ends up feeling torn between conflicting desires. 'The Touch' was Swedish director Ingmar Bergman's first English language film and is considerred , compared to earlier Bergman's first movies, a very straightforward and uncomplicated story.
