HAVE WE FOUND THE LINK?

Is THIS the character that will link 'Fear the Walking Dead' to 'The Walking Dead'?

Following the announcement that 'The Walking Dead' and 'Fear the Walking Dead' will crossover in the coming year, we speculate over which character will link the two shows.

It's already been two weeks since Robert Kirkman, the executive producer of 'The Walking Dead' and 'Fear the Walking Dead' spoke at Comic Con New York. At the event, Kirkman confirmed that despite the latter show being a prequel, the two series would crossover at some point in the coming year. We've not heard much else since, but Kirkman was quite clear: "I'll say this: There are two Walking Dead shows. One character is going to go from one show that I will not name and appear on another show that I will not name."

 The poster for the crossover

Whilst the purpose of the crossover is unknown, many speculate that it is because 'Fear the Walking Dead' has a significantly smaller audience than its sister show. Introducing a character, who is already well established in 'The Walking Dead' universe, to the prequel show, would be a good way to counteract its diminishing viewership. It's important to remember the time gap between the two shows however, for 'Fear the Walking Dead' takes place during the first two months of the zombie epidemic, whilst in 'The Walking Dead', two years of the epidemic have already gone by.

Having been left totally unaware, it's been impossible for us not to speculate which character will unite the two shows. We first thought it was going to be Abraham, (who Negan killed in the 7th season) due to a few suspicious tweets on Michael Cudlitz's behalf.

However, the chances of the linking character being Abraham are quite slim, given said individual would have to have been living on the East coast during the first two or three seasons. When Abraham told his story, we learned that before meeting Rick, he was in Houston with his family trapped in a food store almost 2,500 kilometres from where 'Fear the Walking Dead' takes place. So it's probably not Abraham. So perhaps Cudlitz was toying with us, either that or his tweet refers to the new season of 'The Walking Dead'.

We could hazard then, that the link between the two shows must be a character (dead, departed, or alive) from 'The Walking Dead' whose future remains unknown - someone like Morales, for example.

For those of you who don't remember Morales - he's the guy from the 5th episode of the first season, who chose not stay with Rick and his group. Instead, along with his family, Morales heads for Alabama, only for us not to hear from them again. That happened around the 65th day of the outbreak, and 'Fear the Walking Dead' has just ended its 3rd season on round about the 65th day.

The mounting evidence doesn't even end there, for Juan Gabriel Pareja, who played Morales was originally cast to portray the same character in 'Cobalt' - the initial name for the prequel show, as seen on IMDb (via Uproxx).

'Fear the Walking Dead' was originally called 'Colbalt'

Rick is ready to die in order to defeat Negan

Whilst we don't know anything about the crossover, we do know quite a bit about the upcoming season of TWD. The new season will air on 23rd October in the UK, opening with the show's 100th episode. It doesn't spell like good luck for our favourite characters either, especially Rick. In an interview with Digital Spy, Andrew Lincoln mentioned how Rick is "willing to die" in order to defeat Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).

"You saw him in the beginning of the scene last season on his knees, but he's a completely inverted Rick. He's a man who's willing to die. He's free for all intents and purposes." Lincoln's words only remind us of the elderly Rick as seen in the trailer for the upcoming season. The actor has also mentioned how he feels his character deserves an end. We just can't keep up with all this guessing!
