Just in case you've been living under a rock for these past few months, we'll take this time to re-affirm that there's going to be a sequel to 'Mary Poppins'. The original film premiered back in 1964 and had Julie Andrews in the role of the eponymous nanny.

'Mary Poppins Returns' comes just five years after Disney's 'Saving Mr. Banks' which told the story of how Walt Disney came to meet the author behind the nanny and how together they brought the story to life on the big screen.

Unfortunately for us 'Mary Poppins' fans, Julie Andrews won't be returning to reprise her role in the sequel, although she has heavily endorsed the casting of her replacement. Emily Blunt will play the nanny instead.

The synopsis

The film will kick off a whole 25 years after the events of the first film and is set to focus on a grown up Michael Banks and his family. His sister, Jane Banks, will of course be making an appearance as, of course, will Mary Poppins who we've no doubt will come to the aid of Michael's three children.

 'Mary Poppins Returns'

The original Jane and Michael Banks were played by Karen Dotrice and the late Matthew Garber, respectively. Dick Van Dyke, who played Poppins' good friend, Bert, in the original film will be returning as Mr. Dawes Jr. Emily Mortimer and Ben Whishaw will be portraying the new, grown up Jane and Michael.

We already know 'Mary Poppins Returns' has a lot to live up to, especially because the film's original leading lady won't be returning. But, if Andrews is confident that Blunt makes a sound replacement, then who are we to doubt her?

To make up for her absence however, the sequel boasts a whole load of renowned names including Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury & Julie Walters.

'Mary Poppins Returns' will hit UK cinemas just in time for Christmas this year on 21st December. You can take a look at the first trailer below.

For now, we've nothing more to add except, "Hurry Nanny, many thanks, Jane & Michael Banks".
