'Pacific Rim: Uprising' is the much anticipated sequel to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 film, 'Pacific Rim'. The film is set to hit UK cinemas on 23rd March, and so, with that in mind, we managed to sit down with director Steven S. DeKnight, who's making his cinematic debut with the sequel. Could he have chosen a bigger film?

With regard to the challenges he's faced working on the film, DeKnight paid homage to del Toro's work on the original, before concluding that he wanted to honour what the acclaimed director had done but also expand the 'Pacific Rim' universe at the same time. In the interview, DeKnight mentions what steps he took to go about achieving that.

 John Boyega

"I wanted to explore... the next generation of jaeger pilots", he stated, upon being questioned about his choice of young talents in the film, elaborating on Cailee Spaeny. The actress plays the cadet Amara in the upcoming film and DeKnight has described her as a "phenomenal find" after witnessing the chemistry between her and John Boyega.

A 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' reboot?

We wasted no time in asking DeKnight what he thought about a 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' reboot or revival. The director worked on the show with creator Joss Whedon and then again on the show's spin-off, 'Angel'. Is DeKnight up for it?

Find out in the interview.
