The recent re-make of Stephen King's iconic 'It' is not only prevailing in the box office, but also terrifying audiences worldwide. The new Pennywise is portrayed by Bill Skarsgård who, for the majority of the film horrifies us with disturbing scenes and of course, great acting allowing him to transform into one of the most terrifying clowns known to both cinema and literature. Despite this however, it appears as though we haven't been totally privy to all of the terror Andy Muschietti and his direction have to offer.

Bill Skarsgård revealed to Variety that an important scene was edited out of the ending of 'It'; "The scene turned out really, really disturbing. And I'm not the clown. I look more like myself." The actor didn't reveal too much, only that the scene is a flashback from the 1600's "before Pennywise was Pennywise." He did mention however, that the, "backstory for what It is, or where Pennywise came from... might be something worth exploring in the second one."

Skarsgård also took the opportunity to talk about the aspects of Stephen King's novel he'd most like to bring to the screen. "The book is very abstract and metaphysical about what it means to exist and the idea of fantasy and imagination and all of these things... It's like, what is Pennywise? He only exists in the imagination of children. If you don't believe him to be real then he might not be real. There's an interesting aspect to explore there."

Sequel

The film has already reeled in over $270 million which drastically dwarfs its budget of $35 million. Warner Bros and New Line Cinema have already begun working on the sequel to 'It', a film we'll probably see hit cinemas in 2019. Considering the success of the first film however, we may very well see a whole saga of 'It' films especially if the production team decide to portray the story of Pennywise from the beginning.

The aforementioned flashback scene could even form part of a prequel for the film.
