Over the years, 'The Walking Dead' has gained a significant fan base, so much that with each new season, came bouts new of viewers. The 8th season of the show however, doesn't seem to be performing as well as expected.

The season premiere reached 33% less viewers than that of the 7th season, and the 2nd episode only had an audience of 8.92 million. These are figures that the show has been smashing its way through since its 3rd season. So does the 8th season mark the beginning of the end for TWD?

We're not too convinced yet, given that the show is the most watched on its channel. Having said that, however, the production costs for TWD are high, so it wouldn't surprise us if the team behind the show were beginning to look at 'The Walking Dead's future.

 TWD cast

One could put the blame with Negan and his unconvincing storyline, but if we're honest, a long running show like TWD, has had this gradual decline in viewers coming. We'll have to wait and see if the current situation affects the show's production with regard to budget, cast, and the technical department (especially the team responsible for bringing the walkers to life).

Much more than an audience

Despite everything, 'The Walking Dead' is more than just a simple TV series. The show is based on an international comic that has a significant following. Some fans pay a lot just to be able to keep updated with the storyline. In addition, there's a lot of 'The Walking Dead' merchandise up for purchase, which will certainly ensure that the show stays afloat for however long necessary. It would be a shame for 'The Walking Dead' to unexpectedly bid us farewell, especially for the fans of the show, many of whom have been watching since the beginning.
