About the Before... saga
Richard Linklater's 'Before' trilogy is one of cinema's most singular love stories: three films shot over eighteen years with the same actors, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy, showing the same couple every nine years.
In 'Before Sunrise' (1995), Jesse, an American, and Céline, a French student, meet on a train and spend a night wandering around Vienna. In 'Before Sunset' (2004) they meet again in Paris for a few hours, and in 'Before Midnight' (2013) we see them as a couple, on holiday in Greece.
All three rest almost entirely on long conversations, and Hawke and Delpy became co-writers with Linklater: the last two were nominated for the Oscar for best adapted screenplay.
