Sinopsis
'Baywatch' is a TV series aired by the American network NBC from 1989 to 2001. It was canceled after its first season due to low audience ratings, but David Hasselhoff, believing in its potential, revived it.
The series narrates the adventures of the lifeguards at Santa Monica beach, on the coast of Los Angeles (California). It features both storylines related to their work and interpersonal relationships, as well as showcasing the lifestyle of a coastal place like California.
Throughout its episodes, the protagonists face extreme situations such as earthquakes or shark attacks during their attempts to save all the swimmers in danger. In its tenth season, it moved to Hawaii, serving as a location during the last two seasons, which provided a new visual and narrative setting.
'Baywatch' became one of the most-watched series worldwide in the 1990s, airing in over one hundred forty countries and reaching more than one billion viewers.
It had a notable impact by creating a television icon based on visual spectacle, slow motion, and the exaltation of the physical appearance of its characters. All of this marked pop culture, fashion, and the television representation of what it means to be a hero.
The cast includes names like David Hasselhoff ('Knight Rider'), Pamela Anderson ('Home Improvement'), Yasmine Bleeth ('Nash Bridges'), Alexandra Paul ('Melrose Place'), and David Charvet ('Melrose Place').
Thanks to the success it accumulated, a franchise was created around the title. It includes specials and a film adaptation that premiered in 2017, directed by Seth Gordon, and starring Dwayne Johnson, Zac Efron, and Alexandra Daddario.
