The show is based upon the web series of the same name also created by Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer.

Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glezer have created the series, also starring and producing it.

After shooting each scene a few times verbatim, the actors then shot a few more when they improvise to make the scene funnier if possible.
