Sinopsis
'Chicago Justice' is the third series that originates from 'Chicago Fire' and joins 'Chicago P.D.' and 'Chicago Med'. Like the previous ones, it is produced by Dick Wolf, who is also responsible for others like 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit'. This legal drama will showcase all the initiatives of the State Attorney's team, who will try to successfully handle all the cases they must deal with.
The series was produced by Wolf Films in collaboration with Universal Television and premiered in March 2017 on NBC. It had a single season of 13 episodes before its cancellation. Despite its short duration, the series attempted to expand the Chicago universe, showing the judicial side of the city and offering a deeper perspective on how criminal cases are processed after police investigation. Its focus on the judicial system and interaction with the media aimed to differentiate it from typical police dramas, bringing tension and realism to each case.
The main cast was led by Philip Winchester as prosecutor Peter Stone, Joelle Carter as chief prosecutor Laura Nagel, Carl Weathers as district attorney Antonio Dawson, and Jon Seda as attorney Mark Jefferies. Other cast members, such as Monica Barbaro and Joelle Carter, completed a team of professionals that combined drama, professional ethics, and personal conflicts in each episode.
Although 'Chicago Justice' did not have a long run, its impact lay in showcasing the judicial dimension within an already established television universe. The series was praised for its procedural approach, the intensity of its trials, and the development of complex characters, and served as an example of how to expand established franchises by exploring different areas of the same city.
