The Handmaid's Tale

'The Handmaid's Tale' is the new project from MGM Television for the Hulu network. It is an adaptation of the homonymous novel written by Margaret Atwood in 1985. 

The creator, screenwriter, and executive producer is Bruce Miller ('The 100'), who works alongside Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, and Warren Littlefield.

It premiered in 2017 and has a total of six seasons filled with drama related to religion and feminism in a society viewed through a dystopian lens.

The series is set in a dystopian future where the president of the United States has been assassinated and a totalitarian regime called Gilead has been established. 

In it, women have only reproductive value, taking a back seat in a country where power rests with men who will maintain all control. 

Among the prohibitions they face are talking to other handmaids, reading, dressing freely, or having sex unless it is with their master. 

Offred (Elisabeth Moss, 'Mad Men') is the protagonist, a woman who, after losing everything, begins to work as a handmaid. She becomes one of the caste of women forced into a life composed solely of sexual servitude with the sole purpose of repopulating the world.

Oppression of women, social and political control, identity and memory, femininity and resistance. A future where science, religion, and politics become one with the sole purpose of subjugating the female population.
