Sinopsis
'Águila Roja' ('The Red Eagle') is TV a series broadcasted on TVE and produced by Globomedia. It is set in 17th century Spain and fully delves into the realm of adventure, with its episodes combining action, mystery, and historical drama.
Its protagonist, Master Gonzalo de Montalvo (David Janer, 'Los hombres de Paco'), is a man who decides to become a secret hero after the murder of his wife. From that moment on, he will have to learn to balance being a teacher during the day and a savior at night.
His loyal servant Sátur (Javier Gutiérrez, 'La isla mínima') is one of the few people who knows his secret identity, as even his own son Alonso (Guillermo Campra, 'El Internado') is unaware of his father's hidden side. Gonzalo will try to confront the oppression that the Commissioner (Francis Lorenzo, 'Mis adorables vecinos') exerts in the village, determined to put an end to that era of terror and oppression.
The cast is completed by Inma Cuesta ('Tres bodas de más'), Patrick Criado ('Mar de plástico'), Santiago Molero ('Diamantes negros'), and Pepa Aniorte ('Los Serrano'). The parallel plots of the characters add complexity to the narrative universe of the series and provide different perspectives on how life was lived during that time.
'Águila Roja' became one of the biggest successes of Spanish fiction in the 2010s, leading audiences for several seasons and managing to accumulate millions of viewers during its broadcast.
Its success extended beyond the screen. In 2011, 'Águila Roja: la película' was produced, directed by José Ramón Ayerra and starring the same actors as the series.

Trivia
Season 6 originally consisted of 21 episodes, but the network single handedly decided to split it into two shorter seasons (13 and 8 episodes each one) and aired them four months apart, regardless of how this affected to the storylines.
The role of Loles León was written for her.
It was accused of plagiarism by Corita Viamonte, who wrote a 1963 novel called 'Red Eagle' (aka 'The Masked Swordsman') with the same beginning, general plot and title.
