The Witcher

‘The Witcher’ is a saga of fantasy stories and novels created by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski that focuses on the adventures of the witcher Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), a genetically modified monster hunter who roams an unnamed continent where humans, magical creatures, and constant political tensions coexist.

This universe had already been adapted to other formats, especially to video games, before making the leap to international television fiction.

The television adaptation was produced by Netflix, in collaboration with Sean Daniel Company and Platige Image, with Lauren Schmidt Hissrich as creator, executive producer, and showrunner. The series premiered in 2019 and has four seasons aired to date.

The literary saga consists of eight books featuring Geralt, whose stories unfold in a world that was once inhabited by elves from another dimension.

In the series, the narrative is structured through several timelines that converge around three key figures: the witcher Geralt himself; the powerful sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra), marked by a past of suffering; and the young princess Ciri of Cintra (Freya Allan), who carries a dangerous and coveted secret.

‘The Witcher’ has become one of Netflix's most successful fantasy productions, generating a notable cultural impact. Additionally, it has a large fan base and several spin-offs, establishing it as one of the key franchises in the genre on contemporary television.

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich is the executive producer and showrunner of the fiction, while Alik Sakharov ('House of Cards', 'Game of Thrones'), Alex Garcia Lopez ('Daredevil', 'Fear The Walking Dead'), and Charlotte Brändström ('Outlander', 'Counterpart') are the directors responsible for directing the eight episodes that make up its first season.
