Sinopsis
Created by Jenji Kohan, 'Weeds' is a dramedy that explores the limits of suburban morality through a perspective that is both ironic and provocative. The series follows Nancy Botwin, a middle-class mother who, after the sudden death of her husband, discovers that the comfortable lifestyle she maintained for her family was more fragile than it seemed. Determined to keep up appearances in her idyllic Californian neighborhood, Nancy starts selling marijuana to her own neighbors, opening the door to an increasingly dangerous double life.
Starring Mary-Louise Parker, whose performance earned her multiple accolades, the series portrays Nancy's gradual transformation: from a desperate mother to a calculating figure capable of navigating between drug dealers, federal agents, and international criminals. Surrounding her are characters like her children, played by Hunter Parrish and Alexander Gould, as well as her brother-in-law, portrayed by Justin Kirk, whose immaturity contrasts with Nancy's growing coldness.
Originally aired by Showtime from 2005 to 2012, Weeds combines social satire, criticism of the American dream, and dark humor to question the hypocrisy of suburbia and the thin line between survival and ambition. Under Kohan's creative direction, who would later create 'Orange Is the New Black', the series established itself as a scathing portrait of a woman who, in trying to protect her family, ends up completely redefining her identity.
