An investigation into the death of a young African immigrant who died in the Foreigners Internment Centre in Barcelona in 2012.
Filmmaker Xavier Artigas (Ciutat morta, 2013) investigates the real life case of a young African immigrant who died in the Foreigners Internment Centre in Barcelona in January of 2012. With this documentary, the director is trying to send a message to the society in a political period when immigration and refugees protection act has to be current issues. The young immigrant was called Idrissa Diallo and died with 21 years old because of leaving his country in extreme conditions looking for a better future in Spain, a situation that hundreds of people live everyday. Every year more than a thousand immigrants die in the Mediterranean who were looking for opportunities in a country other than their home country because it is impossible for them to return, and this is the theme that the film wants to address, taking this event to the concrete, the young Idrissa Diallo. By dismissing Idrissa Diallo's case and blocking all access to his police file, the Spanish legal system has made it almost impossible to investigate why and how the death of a 21-year-old Guinean man was killed in a detention center for foreigners in Barcelona. The Spanish State did not even bother to inform its family about the death. He was buried in an anonymous niche in Barcelona.
This film was in the Official Section of Festival de Sevilla in 2018, where it competed with other productions such as 'Atardecer', 'El peral salvaje' or the winner of the Giraldillo de Oro Award 'Donbass'.
