The 2025 Oscar ceremony returns to the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles for its 97th edition with Conan O'Brien as the master of ceremonies. It is the first time the host leads the gala, which is produced by Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan. The nominations will be announced on Thursday, January 23, and the gala will take place on Sunday, March 2 in the afternoon.
'Emilia Pérez' is the most nominated film with 13 nominations, including best picture. It is the first time in Oscar history that two films - 'Emilia Pérez' and 'I Am Still Here' - are nominated for both best picture and best international feature. The nomination of 'Emilia Pérez' soon becomes the center of all controversies, receiving a multitude of criticisms from the Mexican community for the lack of interest its director had shown in understanding their culture in order to portray it accurately.

Not only that, Karla Sofía Gascón, who is the first transgender woman to be nominated in an acting category, ends up sidelined from the promotion of 'Emilia Pérez' after a series of old tweets with racist and distasteful content resurfaced.
Finally, the big winner of the gala is 'Anora', and Sean Baker makes history by becoming the second person in Oscar history to win four awards in one night, matched only by Walt Disney in 1954, although Baker is the first to win all four Oscars for the same film.
