A Boy Called Christmas

'A Boy Called Christmas' is a British Christmas fantasy film directed by Gil Kenan with a screenplay by Kenan himself along with Ol Parker. It is based on the book of the same name published by Matt Haig in 2015. The film premiered in theaters in some countries in Europe, Oceania, and China starting November 24, 2021, while in the rest of the world it went directly to streaming, through an agreement with Netflix, which holds the rights to the film for most territories.

It is a fantastic tale that, in the film, is narrated by Aunt Ruth to three children whose mother has recently died on Christmas Eve. The protagonist is young Nikolas, 13 years old, who lives alone in the forest with his father, a lumberjack, after his mother was killed by a bear years ago. Nikolas befriends a small mouse that he tries to teach to speak.

Encouraged by the King, Nikolas's father and other men from the town set out in search of Alfheim, a magical place and realm of the elves. Nikolas discovers the location of Alfheim on a map and decides to embark on a mission with his mouse to find his father in the north of the country. Along the way, Nikolas will discover that his mouse has indeed learned to speak, while experiencing multiple exciting adventures.

Starring young Henry Lawfull, the film also features performances by Toby Jones, Sally Hawkins, Kristen Wiig, and Michiel Huisman, among others. Filmed in various locations in Lapland, Finland, and the Czech Republic, 'A Boy Called Christmas' generally receives positive reviews following its release.
