A Widow's Game

'A Widow's Game' (2025), directed by Carlos Sedes and produced by Bambú Producciones, is a suspense film based on true events that arrives on Netflix on May 30, 2025. Inspired by the well-known case of the "black widow of Patraix," the story unfolds in Valencia and explores the complexities of a crime of passion that shook the city in August 2017.

In the Valencian neighborhood of Patraix, Antonio Navarro, a 36-year-old engineer, is found dead in his garage, stabbed multiple times. The police investigation, led by veteran inspector Eva (played by Carmen Machi), initially points to a crime of passion. However, it soon becomes clear that the young widow, María Jesús Moreno Cantó, known as Maje, is the main suspect. Maje, portrayed by Ivana Baquero, had been married to Antonio for less than a year and appeared to be a sweet and serene woman.

As the investigation progresses, it is revealed that Maje was involved with several men, including Salvador Rodrigo (Tristán Ulloa), a nurse who also worked at the hospital where Maje and Antonio met. Maje manipulated Salvador into committing the murder, providing him with detailed information about Antonio's schedules and routines. The crime was meticulously planned, and both Maje and Salvador were convicted of murder with premeditation.
