It was once rumored that Justin Long would not return to voice Alvin for the 4th installment and that he would be replaced by Matthew Lillard, but Lillard was busy working on his character "Shaggy Rogers" for upcoming Scooby-Doo movies and projects, making Justin Long once again return to voice Alvin.

This movie is being filmed in Georgia.

Part of the movie was shot in Miami Beach.

This is the first film in the series not to include David Cross as Ian Hawke.
