'An Impossible Love' ('Un amour impossible') is a French-Belgian romantic film set on the Frech city of Châteauroux, during the fifth decade of the XX century. The film tells the story of Rachel, a modest office worker, and Philippe, a young bourgeoisie. When both meet, the two have a brief but intense romance. Wich ends when Rachel gets pregnant and Philippe runs away, refusing to marry someone below his class. Now, alone and broken, Rachel must raise her daughter, Chantal, all by herself. But even in the hardest of times, Rachel will be willing to fight for her child, as a legal battle follows, lasting more than 10 years, in which the mother will fight for the right of her daughter to use her father's surname, just so that she can live with the facilities of the higher class. This battle will tear apart the lives of the broken family.
