Becoming Led Zeppelin

The documentary, announced in 2019, and after several years of waiting, 'Becoming Led Zeppelin' provides unprecedented access to the band, being the first and only film that the group has authorized and participated in. Although 'The Song Remains The Same', the 1976 documentary, focuses on the band, it is largely a concert film of their performances at Madison Square Garden in 1973.

This film explores the origins of the iconic British group and their, against all odds, rapid rise in just one year. It features incredible and extravagant never-before-seen materials, recordings, and performances; moreover, director Bernard MacMahon allows us to explore the history of Led Zeppelin's creative, musical, and personal origins, sometimes in the words of Led Zeppelin themselves.

Additionally, it includes a never-before-seen interview with the late drummer John Bonham, as well as new interviews with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, and John Paul Jones.

This hybrid of documentary and concert film has been challenging to produce because the filmmakers found that there was very little material from the time when the band started. They had to spend five years going back and forth searching in homes, basements, and attics for both archival and never-before-seen material, as well as photographs, concert recordings, musicals, and demos... They then had to employ special techniques to ensure that all those images and videos from over 50 years ago looked good in IMAX and sounded as if they had just been recorded.
