Dayveon

After the death of his older brother, 13-year-old Dayveon (Devin Blackmon) spends the rest of his sweltering summer days wandering around Arkansan, his rural town. His parents aren't present and he doesn't have a lot of role models, which will make him fall in with the local gang. He now lives with his older sister, Kim (Chasity Morre) and her boyfriend Bryan (Dontrell Bright) as well as their 3-years-old son (Lachion Buckingham Jr.). As his sister's boyfriend tries to provide stability and comfort to the family, acting as a reluctant paternal figure, Dayveon will feel more and more attracted and drawn into the violence and camaraderie of the new world of the gangs.

Amman Abbasi's film debut is a tale of African American youth growing up in the South with shreds of magical realism.
