Plot

Film based on the novel of the same name by Sebastian Leilo.

Ronit (Rachel Weisz) is a 32-year-old woman who returns to her hometown Hendon, specifically to an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood in north-east London where she was raised but also where she was harassed for her interest in a childhood friend, Esti (Rachel McAdams). Her return to the place is due to the death of her father, a well-known rabbi.

There she will be reunited with her friend, who decided to stay despite not fitting into the community, and her husband, Dovid (Alessandro Nivola), who is the heir of Ronit's father but does not seem to want that position. Upon his return, her passion rekindles as she explores the limits of faith and sexuality.
