The film was first released in the Forum section of Berlin Film Festival 2018. It received the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury, the Caligari Award and it was nominated to the Glasshütte Original Documentary Award.

J.P. Sniadecki, codirector of the film, has directed four different documentaries in China.
