Plot
'Funny Birds' tells the story of three women from different generations who are forced to live together again after years of absence and resentment. Charlie, a young student, returns to her family's farm in Virginia to care for her sick mother, Laura. The two seem to have a very different outlook on life; Charlie studies economics while Laura runs a small organic egg farm.
This fateful event will bring up problems and circumstances long forgotten after many years without reuniting or living together. From this moment on, they will have to learn to coexist and try to resolve their issues.
Their daily life on the farm, already tense due to years of unspoken resentment, is turned upside down when Laura's mother and Charlie's grandmother, Solange, also appears unexpectedly. Solange is an eccentric French feminist activist who left the United States when her daughter was still very young, and they have hardly seen each other since. Laura's sudden illness motivates them to reconnect.
This family drama with comedic elements stars Catherine Deneuve, Andrea Riseborough, and Morgan Saylor. The film is directed and written by Hanna Ladoul and Marco La Via.
