Plot

The main character is Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), a man from New York who has always wanted to be a gangster, because he always saw the mobsters of his neighborhood and how he been treated by people. So, Henry began to mingle with the mobsters since he was a child, and they received him, ever deeper into that world.

Years later, Henry debuts with the mafia committing a robbery for Jimmy Conwaywith (Robert De Niro) with Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci). Henry's life is exactly as I wanted, enjoying the power, spending his nights at the Copacabana with the rest of the family as one. Until one day, Tommy kills Billy Batts, a member of another of the Mafia families of New York. And this obviously will have consequences for them.

Trivia

True story

Joe Pesci scene that says ?Do you think I?m funny?? Is based on a real anecdote that happened to him when he was young. He worked in a restaurant and told to one gangster that he was funny. So the gangster was very angry with him. Scorsese liked that story and let Joe Pesci and Ray Liotta improvise the scene without telling to other actors.

An Alternative

The now-legendary Steadicam trip through the nightclub kitchen was a happy accident. Scorsese had been denied permission to go through the front, and had to improvise an alternative.

Mobsters as extras

According to Nicholas Pileggi, some actual mobsters were hired as extras to lend authenticity to scenes. The mobsters gave fake Social Security numbers to Warner Bros. and it is unknown how they received their paychecks.
