Plot
'I Swear' is a British biographical drama written, produced, and directed by Kirk Jones. The film, produced by Tempo Productions, premieres on October 10, 2025, in British cinemas after going through the Toronto International Film Festival.
It is a fictionalized adaptation of the life of Scottish activist John Davidson, who has suffered from Tourette Syndrome since childhood. In 1989, Davidson starred in a popular BBC documentary "John's Not Mad," which brought the peculiarities of this condition closer to society at a time when little to nothing was known about it.
The film follows the entire story of John, who as a child transforms from a beloved and popular boy to being the target of his peers' ridicule. As an adult, his life is that of a second-class citizen. It also narrates how that BBC documentary was conceived and filmed.
'I Swear' is starring Robert Aramayo in the lead role, accompanied by, among others, Peter Mullan, Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson, and Scott Ellis Watson. The film receives very positive reviews, particularly highlighting the excellent performance of the lead actor. However, it is criticized for the excess sentimentality applied to the plot at times.
